In a late afternoon game Wynberg's U13A rugby side hosted their counterparts from Durban Preparatory High School on a day bathed in glorious sunshine.

The first fifteen minutes were evenly matched with both teams enjoying territory and possession in roughly equal measure. What made the difference however was the silky running skills and wonderful side-stepping ability of the DPHS inside centre. He put these superb abilities to good use on three separate occasions as DPHS snaffled loose ball off the hosts' handling errors.

With pace aplenty too, this youngster made a mockery of the hosts defence on three occasions to score all of the first half tries. Two of them were converted to leave the visitors 19-0 ahead at the break.

To be fair the hosts did not deserve to be trailing by such a large margin, but with chances of their own at their disposal they failed to capitalise. This poor first half display by the hosts left them with too steep a hill to climb and they were staring at a second successive defeat to their opponents.

The second half saw a much improved all-round performance from Wynberg however, as they proceeded to enjoy a huge 80% territorial advantage. Only once did they manage to convert the territory and the pressure they were applying into points.

Ayanda Mhonto scored a try to the right of the posts from a strong backline run that saw flyhalf Kieran Adams slip the first tackler and offload to Mika Ekström who managed to draw two defenders and feed Ayanda who took the ball right up to the tryline and from the ensuing ruck he dove over to score. Brian Foster converted.

DPHS did manage to draw the second half with a try of their own in working the ball down the left flank and scoring out wide. The conversion was missed to leave the final score at 24-7 in favour of the visitors.
