Cape Town experienced another morning of indecisive weather as drizzle and winds gave way to wonderful sunshine in patches. There was nothing indecisive about the batting from SACS however as they weathered (excuse the pun) the early bowling onslaught from Mika Ekström and Kieran Adams.
The SACS top order consolidated well after opener Jordan Fourie fell to the bowling of Mika. Particularly impressive in the batting department were Samuel Holmes, Akeel Ebrahiem and Ben Koen. Samuel and Akeel laid a perfect platform in a 165 run partnership to set the scene for big-hitting Ben to blaze 62 runs not out from 33 balls.
Most notable was the manner in which the batsmen went about their task. Although Wynberg won the toss and chose to bowl in the overcast and damp conditions, both Samuel and Akeel did a sterling job of taking the singles on offer without taking many risks.
Things could have turned out very differently for Wynberg had they taken their chances as Samuel was dropped on 5 and again on 15 while Akeel was dropped on 58 and Ben on 48. As the old saying goes: "catches win matches", but it was not to be as the SACS batsmen rightly took advantage of their good fortune.

Wynberg had their work cut out for them in trying to chase this formidable total and it would require that they follow the batting example set by their opponents in building partnerships.
Unfortunately this did not materialise as the top order crumbled with the notable exception of captain Jordan Holgate's fighting innings of 51 and Ismaeel Galant's stylish cameo of 39 runs.
The bowling was far more disciplined and the fielding far more committed by the hosts as they made quick work of dismissing the visiting batsmen for 127 runs in 27.4 overs.

That brings to an end the 2010 cricket season for Wynberg while SACS have one more game to complete next weekend. We wish them all the best!
Once all the scores have been tabulated by Wynberg's coaching staff, the players' full season statistics will be published on School Sports during the course of the coming week.
Many thanks to Adnaan Meyer who has done a superb and meticulous job of scoring for the Wynberg U13A side during the latter part of the season!
