WBJS U12A give it all against DPHS U13B

Many thanks to Andre Ford for this additional match report on yesterday's game:

Wynberg Boys started solidly and was rewarded with a try scored by Aaron
Alexander with a darting run on the wing. Both teams were contesting well at
the breakdowns and rucks. Late in the first half DPHS managed to score a
converted try.

The match was extremely physical and WBJS stood up very well
to continual pressure of their opposition. Austin Ford and Tristan Turner
were very competitive upfront and did not allow the opposition to dominate
as they planned. DPHS scored a second try , also converted.

DPHS then scored a 3rd try that was clearly knocked on, but was given anyway as the referee was unsighted. It was then that WBJS took the game to DPHS and asked all kinds of questions of their defense which eventually crumbled when Mustapha Bey scored his team’s 2nd try, which was converted by Brian Foster.

WBJS continued their onslaught on the DPHS defense and was rewarded a 3rd try scored by Jonathan Petersen, unconverted by Brian Foster. With very little time left WBJS stepped up another gear and spread the ball wide to what seemed a certain try only to be pushed out one meter from the DPHS try line.

Initial Report from School Sports:

By all accounts this afternoon's fixture for Wynberg's U12A side against Durban Preparatory High School's U13B touring team was anything but a breeze! Unfortunately, this writer was not able to attend the match and has relied heavily on feedback from those who were there.

Wynberg had a strong first half and led 10-7 at the break having scored two tries to one, but the visitors came back strongly to score two tries to one in the second half and it was the conversions that made the final difference.

With only minutes left to play on the clock and the score standing at 21-17 to DPHS with both sides having scored three tries, Wynberg attacked for all they were worth. The DPHS desperate defence was stretched to its limits and the tension was evident for all to see as the visiting coaches made their presence felt on the sidelines through some very vociferous support.

The final whistle blew and Wynberg can hold their heads high in the knowledge that they played their hearts out against a side physically more mature and intent on imposing this aspect of the game on their opponents.

Final Score: 21-17 to DPHS.

Scorers for Wynberg:

Tries: Jonathan Petersen, Aaron Alexander, Mustapha Bey
Conversion: Brian Foster (1)
