Wynberg travelled down the road to play against Primrose Rugby Club in Kenilworth on a cold and overcast day.
The visitor's first-half display showed glimpses of what was to follow as the backline impressed with some hard running and slick passing. It was only desperate defence and the odd spilled pass that prevented Wynberg from gaining the upper hand.
In the forwards Primrose had the measure of their opponents but were also fortunate on some occasions not to be penalised for a number of infringements at the rucks. The Wynberg forwards fought hard with Tandile Tinzi impressing in the tight exchanges.
With an early penalty converted by Mika Ekström the halftime score stood at 3-0 in favour of Wynberg.
The second half saw the hard work done by the visitors leading to three superb tries. The first was a well taken snipe from the base of a ruck by flanker Brian Foster to cross. The second try was a well executed run by the backline to feed winger Chigo Iwegbuna who backed himself and ran out to the left to cross in the corner, while the final try was a well-deserved effort by Tandile Tinzi as the loose forwards applied pressure from a spilled Primrose lineout throw. He collected the loose ball and ran hard over and through three defenders to score.
Primrose gained a consolation try when they took a quick lineout throw that caught the Wynberg defence napping. Primrose's right-wing scored to leave the final score at 18-5.
Wynberg host Sweet Valley next Saturday.
