Wynberg U13A dispatch SACS

WBJS win again

On another swelteringly hot Saturday morning Wynberg returned to a happy hunting ground at SACS having beaten the same team at the same venue two days ago.

This time SACS captain Jack Teversham won the toss and decided to take first use of the pitch for batting. With Wynberg's opening bowler Mika Ekström trying too hard to bowl fast he ended up being rather wayward as he went for 11 runs in his fourth over. He did manage to pick up the wicket of SACS number three bat, Josh Breed, with the final ball of the same over.

Earlier Kieran Adams had continued to bowl the good line and length he has become so adept at executing to pick up the wicket of Nick Thompson for a solitary run. With the two SACS batsmen back in the pavilion and the score on 32/2 it was left to Matthew Begg and Kyle Boyd to bat sensibly.

The two did just that in a 40-run partnership that threatened to bloom into something significant, but when Kyle lost his wicket the visiting bowlers took their opportunities and with the fielding to complement their discipline the last seven wickets fell for just twenty runs.

Nawaaz Cassiem was particularly successful as he maintained a wicket to wicket bowling line that yielded four wickets.

SACS innings highlights:

Batting:

Matthew Begg - 35 runs

Kyle Boyd - 22

Bowling:

Nawaaz Cassiem - 5 overs, 1 maiden, 4 wides, 4 wickets for 13 runs

Mika Ekström  - 7.4 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wides, 1 no ball, 3 wickets for 25 runs

SACS total: 91 all out after 26.4 overs

SACS opened their bowling effort with a much improved preformance on that of two days previously. Having learned that anything short and anything on middle or leg stump was going to travel, they proceeded to bowl fuller on or outside off stump.

The effect was such that the usually destructive opening bat Mika, was unusually subdued in the early part of his innings. SACS will rue the missed opportunity of claiming his wicket as he cut a wider deliver straight to point that should have been taken. In the fielder's defence the ball was hit well and had some pace on it.

SACS did pick up the wickets of Kieran Adams and Reece Thomas from their improved bowling. Sensible batting by Mika and Donovan Opie in taking plenty of singles that were on offer and punishing anything remotely wide saw the game finish in the 17th over as Mika smashed his third six of the match over the mid-wicket boundary.

Wynberg innings highlights:

Batting:

Mika Ekström - 47 not out

Donovan Opie - 32 not out

Bowling:

Scott Holing - 5 overs, 0 maidens, 1 wicket for 17 runs

Jordan Dobie - 6 overs, 0 maidens, 2 wides, 1 wicket for 33 runs

Wynberg total: 93/2 after 16.2 overs

Result: Wynberg won by 8 wickets
